Medication Management

Medication

Does your prescribed medication confuse you?

Are you at risk of forgetting to take prescribed medication?

Do you struggle to find time to assist a loved one in taking their medication?

Caring direct is aware that the administration and monitoring of medication is vitally important in maintaining the health and well-being of service users within their own home. Many service users are able to safely look after their own medicines and doing so is an important part of maintaining their independence. However, those who cannot manage their own medication safely may require their medicines to be managed for them by care staff that are suitably trained, competent and supervised by senior staff.

The storage, administration and disposal of medication is supported by appropriate policies to ensure that the highest standards are being achieved at all times.

Every service user that requires assistance with medication is regularly contacted by The Caring Direct Team to discuss changes in prescribed medication and where necessary appointments made to readdress prescribed medication with District nurses, G.P’s or Pharmacy.

All medication to be administered by care staff is recorded on MAR Sheets daily and overseen regularly by senior care staff in order to identify any concerns in the first instance.

Should any service user have more complex medication needs that may include Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) or the administration of Morphine and other controlled substances, it may be necessary to request the assistance of a District Nurse in the first instance. Caring Direct will endeavour to work with all District nurses in order that this process may thereafter be possible to delegate to assigned care staff.

The management of medication can be included in your personal care plan and therefore not encounter additional costs. Alternately, you may wish to request a bespoke medication service only where no personal care is required.

In all circumstances, Caring Direct will support your continuing medication requirements and offer a cost effective way forward.
