The Care Quality Commission

The Care Quality Commission is the independent regulator of all health and social care services in England.

The role of The Care Quality Commission is to make sure that care provided by hospitals, dentists, ambulances, care homes and services in people’s own homes and elsewhere meets national standards of quality and safety.

The Care Quality Commission began operating on 1 April 2009 as the independent regulator of health and adult social care in England. They replaced three earlier commissions: the Healthcare Commission, the Commission for Social Care Inspection and the Mental Health Act Commission.

Care Quality Commission inspectors visit health and adult social care services across England to check that they are meeting the standards. They make unannounced inspections of services on a regular basis and at any time in response to concerns.
