Community Transport Scheme

Caring Direct sponsors and supports the Chelmsford Community Transport Scheme and ‘Chelmsford Dial- a Ride’ aiming to promote independence and encourage Service Users to remain an active part of the community. The ‘Dial a Ride’ service provides transport to residents in the Chelmsford area enabling them to make travel arrangements by way of purpose built mini buses, providing wheelchair access when necessary, Monday to Friday. The Scheme also gives Caring Direct the scope to arrange and promote events and excursions to the Service User and provide pre-arranged transport by way of suitably adapted vehicles.

The Chelmsford ‘Dial a Ride’ Scheme was set up to provide transport to the frail, elderly and disabled residents of Chelmsford, Essex. The scheme now boasts in excess of a thousand service users that have benefited or still make use of the valuable service on a regular basis. Chelmsford ‘Dial a Ride’ offers a home pick up service and transport to clinics, hospitals and surgeries, day and resource centres, town centre, supermarkets and shops, parks and many other attractions in the Chelmsford area. Vehicles are fitted with rear tail lifts to enable wheel chair users’ access and have all appropriate anchor points and seat belts.
